Today, it is impossible to imagine life without batteries, as they enable us to provide the necessary intermediate storage of electricity as renewable energy between generation and use. With the steadily increasing areas of application for batteries, for example in mobility and stationary storage solutions, the volume of batteries produced and used is growing exponentially.

Challenge

• Batteries from electric vehicles (EVs) with a residual capacity of 80% no longer meet the demands of transportation (end-of-first-life).
• A growing number of energy-rich batteries will end up in premature disposal without upcycling (second-life).
• Precious raw materials will only be procured for a first application.

Solution through second-life batteries

• Used batteries with residual capacity can be reprocessed for a second use (second-life).
• A second-life battery can continue to be used in a stationary storage system for solar power for 10 or more years.
• The CO2 emissions generated during production can be distributed over twice the useful life.
